The Sanskrit word for this mortal body is “Deha” and it is called so because at the end of its journey, it is submitted to fire by a process/Sanskara called “Dahana” to enable attainment of ParamAtma for the departed soul.

Some Hindu, may have chosen for themselves a path of Sanyasa(monkhood) wherein they would have conducted their own funeral rites while alive, and hence broken their relationship with fire/agni.

A Sanyasa is by himself, forbidden to use fire to cook food (or) thrive (or) possess any wealth in a material form.

The Sanyasa are not submitted to Fire at the end of their mortal journey, but are surrendered to Earth.

Some enlightened souls, who have attained to God realisation in their mortal lifetime are also surrendered to Earth, and on their Samadhi(tomb) if installed a “Shiva Lingam” it is called as “ADHISTANAM” & if installed a Tulasi/Basil plant is to be called as “BRINDAVANAM”.

The ADHISTANAM is a Shaivite tradition while the BRINDAVANAM is more a VaiShnava tradition.

The beings of the ADHISTANAM & BRINDAVANAM are both considered as living masters and people offer prayers, seek guidance & blessings from these souls who have now transformed from being “Finite to Infinite”

Ex:ADHISTANAM> Sri Ramana Maharshi & BRINDAVANAM>Sri Raghavendra Swamy.

In an ADHISTANAM the soul is identified as being one with the CREATOR, while in the BRINDAVANAM the soul is identified as one with the CREATION.

In Sanatana Dharma, the Creator & Creation are considered not separate & aDwaita.
